Trust

Right now we probably all have more questions than answers with the one of the biggest questions probably being ‘when will this all end?’

Many of us are thinking about how we will manage financially and what life will actually look like once this whole pandemic is over. Each of these questions, and more, exist in my mind on a daily basis and form one or two conversations with my husband Mark and other family members and friends at some point throughout the day.

However, my inner conviction always draws me to God's word and the promises that for years, like many of you, I have had underlined in my Bible. It’s in this challenging and uncertain season that these promises seem to be more poignant than ever. One of the many promises that have been underlined is in the book of Psalms, chapter 31 and verse 14 which says - “But I trust in You, O Lord. I say, “ You are my God, my times are in Your hands.”

So, as I read this recently I challenged and asked myself these questions:

Do I actually trust God?

Do I believe that my times, my future is in His hands?

To trust means ‘a firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something.

As Christians; believers in Jesus Christ and the good news of the gospel, we know that God is trustworthy! And now more than ever we need to put that trust into practice if we want to eliminate all traces of fear, panic and anxiety.

To trust God is not a one time decision.

Like many decisions we make, it's a daily discipline; a choice that we choose to make and it's often several times a day. With this in mind I looked again at these verses and asked myself “What does it actually look like to intentionally trust God each day?” And my simple response was to break it down into a simple format using the word TRUST.

T - Talk to God everyday

Talk to Him about all your concerns, worries, fears and cares. The Bible tells us many times that God cares -

1 Peter 5:7 ‘Let him have all your worries and cares, for he is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you.’ TLB.

Talking to God is what we call prayer and prayer is the most powerful thing we can do. Prayer changes things!

R - Read God's word everyday

Instead of reading the news all day, read God's word and meditate on His promises remembering that it really is our daily bread.

Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. NIV

U - Unplug all the negatives

Check what you’re watching and who and what you’re listening to.

Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes. Romans 12:2 TPT

S - Sing praises to Him

Let the song IN you be louder than the circumstances around you. Put your worship playlist on everyday

But as for me, I will sing each morning about your power and mercy. For you have been my high tower of refuge, a place of safety in the day of my distress. Psalm 59:16 TLB

T - Thank God everyday

A thankful heart is a healthy heart.

No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 TLB

It’s true that you and I don't really know the answers to all of the questions we all have right now but we know that God does.

And if we choose to TRUST Him then we, like King David, can confidently say “You are my God, my times are in Your hands.”
